Warm and Well Newsletter

It’s been a very busy last few months with the #YorkshireEnergySavingsMonth or #YESM20 campaign  we launched throughout May proving popular on Social Media with lots of new followers. One of Polish advisers, Karolina even translated some of our tips for our Polish followers!

We have now moved back into our office and are continuing to work with our partners to help support people suffering from fuel poverty across North Yorkshire. We are committed to helping as many people as we can as the financial fall out of the lockdown hits North Yorkshire.

We have had some great successes with helping people recently, with one client saving £500 on his energy bills after a quick call to us. We also managed to help a family where one person had been made redundant and his partner furloughed with a full tank of oil and some bedding and mattresses for their children as they had no income due to the Coronavirus.

However, we know people are still struggling as restrictions are lifted with the charity Step Change last week releasing figures that, as many as 1.2 million people had fallen behind on utility bill payments, 820,000 people on council tax, and 590,000 on rent. Around 4.2 million people had borrowed to make ends meet, mostly by using a credit card, overdraft or a high-cost product such as a payday loan.

We know form Citizens Advice Mid North Yorkshire’ stats and recent press release that many people have had to move on to Universal Credit for the first time and are needing support during the 5 weeks wait for the first payment.  We expect to see a ‘second wave’ of people needing advice and support after the inevitable redundancies with North Yorkshire having been hit hard by the Coronavirus. The service sector and tourism sector have already seen people lose their jobs across the region so we want them to know we are there for them during these difficult times.

After the success of our #YESM20 where we gave loads of Energy Savings Tips, we have decided to make July Energy Switching Month. Many people often wait until Autumn to start looking at cheaper energy tariffs, but we are encouraging people to look at switching now and saving money in the long term.

On average we save people £213 a year and we understand that every penny counts at the moment so we encourage you to call us on 01609 767 555 and one of our Energy Specialist Advisers is guaranteed to help you make you better of financially when it comes to energy costs! If you have an elderly relative you are worried about or someone who has been shielding and may be struggling with their bills you can refer them here and we will be in touch with them as soon as we possibly can.  You have nothing to lose, only to gain so contact us today to see how we can help you and your family!
