Free central heating scheme making a difference in North Yorkshire
Certain residents are benefiting from reduced fuel bills and warmer homes thanks to free central heating provided by the North Yorkshire Warm Homes Fund.
71 A-rated systems have been installed, saving over £968,000 million on residents’ future fuel bills.
Funding is available for a limited time to help homeowners and private renting tenants using inefficient storage heaters, room heaters or fires.
North Yorkshire County Council are working with Hambleton, Richmondshire, Ryedale and Scarborough Borough councils to deliver the scheme.
Eligible residents must receive certain benefits, or have a household income below £21,000 and meet additional criteria such as having young children, being over 70 or having specific health conditions.
Peter Benson from Thirsk, benefitted from the scheme.
Peter explained: “I’m a self-employed fencer and I used to sit in front of my fire to get warm after work but the house would be freezing.
“I was so happy when it was fully funded. Now I come home, switch the heating on and I love it!”
Funding is secured from the Warm Homes Fund – an innovative funding stream established by National Grid and administered by Affordable Warmth Solutions to help make households in Great Britain warmer, healthier and cheaper to heat.
Each district council is providing match funding and there are separate gas connection grants available.
